Malaysia @ ITU
Malaysia has previously served as a Council member of the Union from 1998 to 2014, and we have been actively involved in the ITU Radio Regulations Board (RRB) as Chair and Vice-Chair, as well as led the ITU Council Standing Committee on Administration and Management. We also chaired the Focus Group on Aviation Applications of Cloud Computing for Flight Data Monitoring, as well as served as the Vice-Chair of the ITU Council Working Group on Child Online Protection. Malaysia successfully chaired the Working Group of the Plenary at the 2018 Plenipotentiary in Dubai, UAE that oversaw the challenging processes involved in securing modifications and formulation of resolutions on new and emerging technologies and ICTs.
Malaysia deeply values knowledge and experience sharing, and in acknowledgment of this, has hosted the Asia-Pacific Centres of Excellence (ASP CoE) at various locations throughout Malaysia, such as the ITU Rural ICT Development which was hosted by the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), and Wireless and Fixed Broadband hosted by the Wireless Communication Centre of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
MyDIGITAL
Malaysia launched the MyDIGITAL (Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint) during the height of the pandemic in February 2021.
MyDIGITAL will chart the development of Malaysia’s digital economy and comprises action plans which will adopt a whole-of-nation approach. It emphasises human-centric values which will benefit the society at large, and counts on cooperation and concerted efforts from society, business, and the Government.
MyDIGITAL includes fit-for-purpose ideas and plans to improve digital literacy, create high-income jobs, make banking and finance business easier and more organized, provide virtual educational access to Malaysian children/ students and to bring medical facilities to rural towns.


JENDELA
The Malaysian Government launched the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) a 5-year plan under the 12th Malaysia Plan to accelerate the country’s digital connectivity, narrow the digital divide and provide quality and inclusive telecommunication services to the rakyat, whilst preparing the country for 5G. There are two (2) phases under JENDELA; Phase 1 which is planned for 2020-2022 aims to achieve the following:
While under Phase 2, which covers 2023 and beyond, JENDELA envisages the use of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and fit of purpose technologies to address gaps in the digital divide. Arising from the JENDELA initiatives, rollout of 5G network will be expedited, with commercial 5G services targeted to be available in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya by end of 2021.
